Recently, a group from BCS Wealth and First Covenant Trust took part in the United Way Week of Caring to volunteer at the Arc of Washington County. While volunteering, the group built two benches and also helped the kids at the respite centers make crafts to sell at One Acre Café. The proceeds will be used to buy teddy bears to give to police officers and fire fighters to have on hand if they see a child that may need one. The kids at Arc chose this project because they want to give back to the community and be contributing members of society. The two benches that were built will be given to the churches that allow Arc to use spaces in their church buildings for the respite program. It is such a good reminder that sometimes these overlooked individuals are some of the most beautiful people we have around us!
The Arc of Washington County’s mission is to enable persons of all ages with disabilities to live as contributing, valued members of the community by creating partnerships that foster nurturing communities where people with disabilities can live their vision of a valued life.
Thanks to the volunteers and especially to Rachel for organizing the group.
